A translation from a while back

Every once in a while I think of this poem by Nicanor Parra, and want to find my translation again. So here it is! I think it is weirdly compelling and it also makes me laugh even if it is a somewhat bitter or wry laugh. There’s a lot in there.

Fornicar es un acto diabólico
Dios es un buen amigo de los pobres.

  1. In my memory i translated that as, Lets not fool ourselves, rather than as Let’s not throw dust into our own eyes. Whatever version I found in a notebook may have been an earlier one. I like the non-literal one a bit better!
